L7 rock star Jennifer Finch, 59, diagnosed with brain cancer

L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

Her bandmates, including Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner and Demetra Plakas, confirmed on Monday (13.07.26) that the 59-year-old rock star has been diagnosed with “an aggressive form” of the disease.

They confirmed the news on Instagram while frontwoman Donita added in a separate statement: “We are all devastated by the news and are surrounding her with love, protecting her privacy and dignity, while helping raise the resources she urgently needs for the care ahead.

“Jennifer is family, and we want her to feel the full strength of the community that has loved and supported her for so many years.”

The update comes months after the iconic group confirmed plans for The Last Hurrah Tour, which is due to start in October.

On Instagram, the band wrote: “The Last Hurrah Tour was planned along with Jennifer when all four of us were in good health and spirits.

“Although she will not be able to join us for the upcoming U.S. dates, Jennifer has asked us to continue with the tour as planned.

“We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority.”

Elsewhere in the Instagram post, Jennifer’s bandmates revealed a GoFundMe has been set up to help with medical costs.

They added: “Following multiple surgeries and serious complications, Jennifer now requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support.

“Friends, family and L7 have launched a GoFundMe to help cover these urgent expenses and allow her to remain safely at home with the care, dignity and support she needs.”

They asked fans to “donate if you are able”, and to help by sharing the campaign “as widely as possibly”.

The band concluded their statement: “Jennifer is part of our family.

“We love her, and we want her to feel the full strength of the community that has loved and supported her for so many years.”

On the campaign, Jennifer’s loved ones have revealed that initially, loved ones believed the treatment and “full course of radiation” would get the rock star “back so some version of normal living”.

The page continued: “Unforeseen complications led to multiple surgeries and a string of difficult setbacks.

“The cancer and everything that comes with it have left her with significant physical limitations so she’s handling this the only way she knows how: one day at a time.”

Her friends and family can’t provide the level of care she needs, and donations will help with physical therapy, in-home nursing care, medical expenses and more.

L7 formed in the mid-1980s, with three of their seven albums charting in the Billboard 200.

Their most recent record was Scatter the Rats in 2019, which was their first and only LP since their reunion in 2014.

Away from the pioneering all-female band, Jennifer previously dated Nirvana and Foo Fighters star Dave Grohl, and The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan.

From 200 to 2007, she was married to actor, musician and NASCAR driver Chris Pederson.
