Elton John to revive Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour for two nights only

Sir Elton John is reviving the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour for two nights only to bid goodbye to Mexico.

The 79-year-old music legend was forced to cancel the Mexico dates of his final jaunt across the globe in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he’s set to return with two nights at Mexico City’s Banorte Stadium on October 2 and 3.

He announced on Instagram: “I am excited to announce that I will be performing two nights at Banorte Stadium on 2 and 3 October.

“Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart. I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour which makes this return especially meaningful. I’m thrilled to finally share this very special moment with my fans after all these years…

“Rocket Club members can register now for early access, join now via the link in my bio. Artist presale begins Wednesday, July 15 at 12pm local time in Mexico City.”

Tickets go on sale to the general public July 16 at 12pm local time.

The Rocket Man stepped away from touring three years ago, wrapping his mammoth Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour after more than 300 shows.

Despite scaling back his live performances, Elton shows no signs of slowing down completely.

He recently revealed he quietly completed a brand‑new album – and it only exists because his eyesight troubles forced him to rebuild his entire creative process from scratch.

While accepting the prestigious Glenn Gould Prize at the Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Resort in Toronto in May, the I’m Still Standing hitmaker explained that his eye condition made his usual lyric‑first method impossible.

He told the audience: “I’ve had eye trouble recently and I always make records by looking at lyrics and writing to lyrics, and so I’m kind of f***** at the moment.

“For the first time in his five‑decade career, he had to flip his approach completely.

“What my eye has given me is a chance of, at 80 years of age, completely reversing how I write. I’m writing melodies first, and lyrics coming second. I’ve never done that. And I’ve just done it.”

The shift sparked a creative breakthrough, resulting in an album he describes as unlike anything he’s ever made.

He added: “I’ve just done an album, which is so different to anything I’ve ever done before, but it’s so happy. I’m so thrilled with it because it’s given me another chance to make music.”

Elton’s eye issues began in the summer of 2024, when an infection left him blind in his right eye.

Meanwhile, it was recently reportedly that Elton has bagged a hologram residency in Las Vegas with “more advanced” technology than ABBA Voyage.

The Candle in the Wind singer is believed to have landed a mega-money deal for the show at the brand-new Hard Rock Hotel opening in Sin City next year.

Not only will it feature the Tiny Dancer hitmaker in hologram form, but his collaborators Dua Lipa and Kiki Dee’s avatars will duet with Elton.

A source told The Sun: “Elton, Dua and Kiki will be holograms. It’s similar to the ABBA Voyage show in London, but far more advanced as the technology has come on so much.

“Elton signed a seven-figure deal with Hard Rock. It’s a shift away from a traditional residency and is billed as a fully immersive experience.

“It’s going to look phenomenal.”

ABBA Voyage has lined the pockets of the Swedish pop icons, who reunited in the form of digital “Abba-tars” in 2022, and have played their hit tracks to millions of people since the virtual concert began in May that year.  The virtual show uses high-tech motion capture, while their original vocals are used.
