Jack White quietly unveils new album Frozen Charlotte with bizarre backstory and DIY art

Jack White has confirmed he’s releasing a new album titled Frozen Charlotte – not through a formal announcement, but through a quietly updated description on his official web store.

The listing states the record is his seventh studio album, describing it as showing Jack “at his best; backed by an incredible band… whose collective hand is scorching hot after coming off a tour of universally‑acclaimed performances.”

It adds that the group “went straight to work in the studio and laid down what became Frozen Charlotte,” recording the project at his Third Man Studio in Nashville.

The album features 13 tracks, carrying what the description calls “raucous, raw, and frenetic energy” with blues influences running underneath.

Two vinyl editions – a blue swirl and a creamy crumpled variant – have already appeared on the site.

Jack hasn’t posted a traditional announcement on social media, but he has used Instagram to explain the album’s striking artwork.

He told fans the cover began when a 1940s chalkware sailor statue fell in his studio and broke.

He recalled: “I grab a nearby blue skull shaker percussion object and glue it in the head’s place. I paint the body white and suddenly an all new character avatar that I called ‘Frozen Charlotte’ came to life. (sic)”

He went on to explain that a “frozen Charlotte” refers to a Victorian penny doll linked to an old folk song about a girl who froze to death. Jack said he scanned and 3D‑printed multiple versions of the figure, including a chrome alter‑ego called the Frozen Charlatan, adding: “Many versions of the sculpture started to come out of me, different personalities and characters… all of which are in the art show.”

Those pieces are currently on display at his These Thoughts May Disappear exhibition at Newport Street Gallery in London until September 13.

Fans previously spotted a hint of the album when the single G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs briefly went on sale and sold out instantly.

Frozen Charlotte follows 2024’s No Name, which also had an unusual roll-out.

The former White Stripes star first circulated the album through unmarked white vinyl slipped into purchases at his Third Man Records shops in Detroit, London and Nashville, as well as through mailings to his vinyl club subscribers. Blue vinyl copies later appeared at his live shows, before he finally confirmed a full release under the title.
