Britney Spears wanted for Copacabana gig

Britney Spears is wanted to headline a concert at Copacabana Beach.

The organisers of Rio de Janeiro’s biggest free show are keen to bring the pop idol to Brazil.

When quizzed on the speculation that the Toxic hitmaker is circling a Copacabana performance, organisers reportedly said “we still believe in it”.

The 44-year-old star hasn’t performed live since the conclusion of her Piece of Me Tour in 2018.

If she does the Rio gig, she would follow in the footsteps of Lady Gaga, who played to a record-breaking audidence of around 2.5 million in May 2025, and Madonna.

Gaga’s two-hour show was paid for by the city of Rio de Janeiro in an effort to boost the local economy with around 500,000 tourists reported to have travelled to the city in order to attend the concert.

It was the biggest concert of Gaga’s career and her first performance in Brazil since 2012.

The Rio rumour comes as Britney vowed to “never perform in the US again”.

The superstar opened up about her plans in a post on Instagram in which she revealed she was sending a piano to one of her sons and vowed never to perform on home soil again due to “extremely sensitive reasons,” but she hopes to return to the stage to entertain fans in the UK and Australia.

In her post, Britney explained: “Sending this piano to my son this year!!! … Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about. Yup and it’s embarrassing sometimes … but I walked through the fire to save my life …

“I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons but I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son … in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon.”

She had been due to return to the stage for a second stint in Las Vegas with her Domination shows – which ran from 2013 to 2017 – in 2019, but the run was called off with the singer citing family issues for the cancellation.

In a statement issued at the time, she explained: “I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family. We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.

“Thank you to all my fans for your continued love and support during this time. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and I look forward to the time when I can be back on stage performing for all of you.”
