Olly Murs: I would have given Love Island a go

Olly Murs would have applied for ‘Love Island’ if he hadn’t become famous.

The 36-year-old singer shot to fame after he finished second on ‘The X Factor’ in 2009, but if his singing career hadn’t worked out then he would have loved to have taken part in the ITV2 dating show.

Speaking on Vicky Pattison’s ‘The Secret To’ podcast, Olly said: "Of course I would have loved to go on ‘Love Island’. If I had never got famous I would have given ‘Love Island’ a go, 100 per cent.

"Me and my mates always talk about, ’We would have done this, we would have done that’. I love watching it."

The ‘Heart Skips a Beat’ hitmaker – who started dating girlfriend Amelia Tank in 2019 – spends "weeks" watching the reality show, but really believes he would’ve had a good chance at winning the programme.

He added: "Me and my mate spent weeks watching ‘Love Island’ and me and Amelia [Tank] had just started seeing each other.

"We watched ‘Love Island’ every night. If we were in ‘Love Island’ we would have cleaned up, I would have won this."

Olly recently admitted he is "still struggling" to come to terms with former ‘Love Island’ presenter Caroline Flack’s death.

The 40-year-old TV presenter took her own life in February this year, and Olly – who previously co-hosted ‘The X Factor’ with Caroline – has said her passing still "hurts every day".

He confessed: "For Caz not to be here anymore is hard, it’s difficult. I am still struggling.

"It hurts every day thinking about what she must have gone through."

Olly admitted there is a "massive hole" in his life without Caroline.

He said: "It’s mad losing someone you care about.

"There is a massive hole in my life without Caz in it. I think about her most days.

"I miss those moments of crazy stories – we would have the most random conversations about the most random things.

"I am going to miss that forever.

"It breaks my heart what happened. I love her.

"I know I will see her again at some point so I look forward to that day."
