Simon Cowell ‘in talks with Netflix for new talent shows’

Simon Cowell is reportedly in talks with Netflix over new talent shows.

The ‘X Factor’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ boss is said to be sitting down with a top boss at the online streaming platform in September to discuss plans for potential formats to bring to the service.

An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "Simon’s moving with the times and thinks that his formats could work for Netflix.

"A meeting with his team and their Content Acquisition team has been pencilled in for September.

"Simon has a proven track record of success with ‘Got Talent’ and ‘The X Factor’ – but he wants to move with the times and see what Netflix think of some of their new TV ideas."

‘X Factor’ has been revamped recently with band and celebrity editions – although it has taken a break in 2020 – and the music mogul is reportedly keen to explore "wacky new ideas" with Netflix.

The source added: "They still believe there is life in talent shows and Simon is keen to see if they could make something work on Netflix.

"It’s early days but it’s all very exciting. Simon is an ideas man and loves when his team come up with wacky new ideas.

"And they think Netflix could be the perfect home for some of their ideas."

The report comes just weeks after Simon bought Sony’s stake in Syco Music Entertainment.

The move means he now owns the ‘Got Talent’ and ‘X Factor’ brands outright after he reached a mutual deal to buy Sony Music’s shares in his company, which he has now re-branded Syco Entertainment.

He said in a statement: "I won’t say this was an easy decision to make, however sometimes you have to personally support something you are so passionate about.

"I’ve always believed it’s important to take on new goals in order to drive new ideas and creativity so I’m very excited to be taking an independent and creatively-led Syco Entertainment into the future."
