Tony Clay thinks EastEnders viewers would welcome Ballum wedding

Tony Clay thinks ‘EastEnders’ viewers would love to see Callum Highway and Ben Mitchell get married.

The 28-year-old actor – who plays Callum in the BBC soap – has revealed he hopes the loved-up duo, nicknamed Ballum by fans, tie the knot in the future, saying it would also "go down pretty well" with fans of the show.

Asked what he’d love to see Ben and Callum do in the future, Tony replied: "Obviously a wedding in the future! That’d be lovely and I think that would go down pretty well.

"To have longevity between the two of them, seeing them have their ups and downs and how they deal with it together.

"Continuing to do exciting storylines too, we’ve been very lucky with the stuff we’ve been given and I really hope it continues."

Tony thinks it’s "important" to see LGBTQ+ representation in British soaps.

The actor also admitted to being "proud" of his association with the show, which has refused to "play against a stereotype that we’ve seen on TV through the years".

He told Metro.co.uk: "I think it’s so important that soaps represent the LGBTQ+ community and I think ‘EastEnders’ has been incredible with the storylines and it’s refusal to play against a stereotype that we’ve seen on TV through the years.

"I’m so proud to be a part of a show that champions every community and I hope it continues long in to the future!"

Despite this, Tony admitted he feels under pressure playing an LGBTQ+ character.

The soap star explained: "I do feel pressure to play Callum truthfully, as it’s such an important story to tell and one that I know has affected so many people across the world.

"So to be able to play a character like Callum with all those layers and to portray it truthfully is very, very important to me and I hope that his stories continue to resonate with people."
