Gogglebox hit with 208 Ofcom complaints

‘Gogglebox’ has been hit with Ofcom complaints about social distancing guidelines.

The Channel 4 series – which sees best friends Lee Riley and Jenny Newby, and others, react to British TV from their own homes – received 208 complaints from viewers concerned that some of the stars weren’t following social distancing rules.

An Ofcom spokesperson told The Sun Online: "We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate."

The government issued rules amid the coronavirus pandemic that restricted people from going to see members of their family if they live in different homes.

‘Gogglebox’ was first hit with complaints in March, but since the lockdown measurements have been in place some famous faces have been replaced with other household members to help stop the spread of the respiratory disease.

Whereas others – including Jenny and Lee – moved in together to continue filming as normal.

But some eagle-eyed viewers weren’t convinced and took to Twitter to call out sisters Ellie and Izzi Warner who continued to film together despite living in separate houses.

One fan wrote: "Ellie & Izzy mouthing off about Lockdown when they’ve clearly not followed the rules – I’d love to see my sister!"

With another tweeting: "How can the two sisters be moaning about Boris Johnson when they aren’t helping the situation, they shouldn’t be in contact they live in separate households."

However, a spokesperson previously said the show – which has been using rigid cameras to film without crew – would only continue filming those who have followed the guidelines.

They said: "Most of the families live together but where they don’t, they are complying with PHE [Public Health England] social distancing guidelines.

"’Gogglebox’ will only film with families where it’s safe to do so. The health and safety of our cast and crew is paramount."

And there was an announcement on the show, which said: "Just in case you’re worried, they are all keeping to the guidelines of social distancing."
