Michelle Collins’ impostor syndrome

Michelle Collins suffered "impostor syndrome" while working on her new show ‘Queens of Mystery’.
Although the 58-year-old actress was a backing singer for the band Mari Wilson and The Wilsations when she was 18, she admitted that playing veteran rock star Electra Bliss, who is hoping for one last hurrah, in her new series was daunting.
Michelle exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I love playing Electra Bliss. She’s just really great fun. She still thinks she’s a pop star, she’s a little bit delusional.
"Having dabbled in the pop world myself, a long, long time ago, I have sung a little bit.
"I’ve a little bit of impostor syndrome with singing, but they asked me if I would sing the song and I went into the studio and sung it, which was really good fun."
And Michelle loves the show because it has strong female leads.
She explained: "I got to work with Frances Barber, who I had worked with before in ‘Real Women’.
"There are some great female roles in the show. It’s really great it’s the ‘Queens of Mystery’, not the ‘Kings of Mystery’.
"The central characters are all women, and it’s very cleverly narrated. Like those Raymond Chandler-style films. It is really clever and quirky."
Meanwhile, Michelle admitted she was extremely disappointed when her production of Harold Pinter’s ‘The Birthday Party’ was axed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
She said: "[Before lockdown] I was doing Harold Pinter play ‘The Birthday Party’ – a gift of a role, playing Meg. The role that so many people go, ‘Oh my God, it’s such a great role.’
"We would’ve been doing a national tour, and that was all cancelled. We’d only rehearsed for a week.
"That was a bit of a blow. I don’t know [if they will reschedule it]. At the moment, they’re not talking about it. Maybe next year? Who knows."
‘Queens of Mystery’ Series 1 is available to watch in full on Acorn TV now.
