Sport Relief raises more than £40 million

‘Sport Relief’ has raised more than £40 million for charity.
The BBC’s biennial charity event – which was staged in front of a live studio audience in Salford – has managed to raise as much as £40,540,355, and organisers have promised that a significant amount of the money will go to those affected by the coronavirus crisis.
The show opened with a sombre message from presenter Gary Lineker, who warned we are living in "unprecedented times".
Paddy McGuinness – who co-hosted the show alongside Gary – also used the opportunity to pay tribute to Caroline Flack, who committed suicide in February.
Speaking about the presenter – who had worked with both ‘Sport Relief’ and ‘Comic Relief’ – Paddy said: "Recently we lost a much-loved member of the ‘Sport Relief’ family.
"Caroline Flack was always a huge and very active supporter of everything this charity does. She gave so much of her time and talent to help others.
"She’ll be greatly missed by us all, we send all our love to her family."
Paddy previously paid tribute to the ‘Love Island’ presenter after news emerged of her passing.
He said: "We’re all fragile and we all need an arm around the shoulder and some reassurance from time to time.
"Check in on your friends and family. Rest peacefully Caroline. (sic)"
Elsewhere, Rita Ora appeared on the show to deliver a performance of her hit ‘How To Be Lonely’.
Other big-name stars who supported the ‘Sport Relief’ cause included ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge David Walliams, Vicky McClure, Sir Andy Murray, comedian Romesh Ranganathan and Cheryl.
