Car S.O.S presenters deliberately leave repairs unfinished

‘Car S.O.S’ presenters Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townshend deliberately leave their restorations unfinished for the benefit of their owners.
The duo have reunited for the eighth series of the National Geographic show, which sees the pair surprise car lovers by repairing their treasured vehicles, however, they make sure they do not finish their work completely to allow the owners to make tweaks to their cars.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz, Tim said: "We’re petrol heads and know there would be a certain resentment if we completely rebuilt a car in mint condition. We’re not afraid to leave a window wiper falling off or chrome paint the car because 99 per cent of people we do restorations for are car guys or car girls and they want their own little projects to work on."
Fuzz added: "They have the option of waking up in the middle of the night and going, ‘Hold on, my cars done.’ They can just go down to their garage and sit in the driving seat."
The show often features people who have been unable to work on their cars due to difficult personal circumstances and Fuzz admits that he often gets emotional when watching episodes back as he is only focused on repairing the car.
The 55 year old explained: "We’re so involved in the restoration of the cars and there’s a lot going on in the background so I personally don’t feel it at the time. But when I watch it back, which we do to make sure everything is factually correct, it hits me as much as it does anybody watching the show."
Tim, 45, believes that Fuzz not being involved in meeting the owners benefits the show, as he may lose focus on the restoration if he gets involved.
He said: "We do it on purpose, so I’m the one who meets the family members and has the interview. I think it works well, even though I get the parts, I don’t have as much responsibility for the restoration as Fuzz.
"If Fuzz became too emotionally involved in the family and their story, he might take his eye of the ball a little bit. I take that weight on my shoulders and do walk away from some situations feeling really sad. Fuzz is focused on getting the car done and I think that works quite well."
‘Car S.O.S’ airs on National Geographic at 8pm on from Thursday (12.03.20).
