Lynne McGranger wants to become an Uber driver

Lynne McGranger thinks she’d have been an Uber driver if she was never cast in ‘Home and Away’.
The 66-year-old actress – who has played Irene Roberts on the Australian show for 27 years after taking over the role from Jacqy Phillips in 1992 – joked she would be working for the ride sharing app if she wasn’t a soap star.
In an interview on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ on Friday (29.11.19), she said: "Oh darling, I reckon I would be like most actors. I would be driving Uber – is there Uber here? I’d be driving about, making sandwiches somewhere and trying to audition and get roles."
Lynne originally had another career path in mind as she was once a primary school teacher, although she joked she wasn’t "very good".
She quipped: "Yes, I was… and not a very good one. Actually, I was fine until they bought children into the room. Then it all went tits up."
Luckily, the soap star always had a passion for acting and eventually realised her dream whilst she was still teaching.
She added: "I was one of those kids that would make the neighbours come and pay me to watch me sing ‘My Fair Lady’, the whole album in the backyard at about six or seven. I always loved to entertain people and I love to make people laugh, and I love to dance and all of that kind of thing.
"When I was at teacher’s college I joined the drama crew and there was a light bulb moment that I went, ‘I think I can wing this. I quite like it and it’s fun’ and I did teach for a few years and then I just joined a theatre company and the rest is history."
