Susanna Reid will earn £400,000 for ‘Good Morning Britain’.
The 43-year-old TV star, who quit her role fronting ‘BBC Breakfast’ to become the new face of ITV breakfast, is to earn less than half the £1 million salary she was rumoured to be receiving for her jump to the channel.
However, Susanna will still earn double her BBC fee, which is thought to be £200,000.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "The idea that Susanna is getting a £1million salary is ludicrous. She was working at the BBC where they weren’t paying her anything like that.
"Her deal is less than half of £1million but still a significant improvement on her BBC earnings. This is a cut-price deal when compared to others."
ITV bosses refrained from handing Susanna a million-pound deal similar to Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, who jumped ship from BBC to ITV in 2010, but failed to improve the fortunes of ITV’s breakfast slot when they hosted ‘Daybreak’.
The insider added: "Adrian and Christine were an expensive experiment. The bosses have tired of handing over footballer-style wages."
Susanna will begin her new role with ITV next week when ‘Good Morning Britain’ replaces ‘Daybreak’.
