Love Island confirmed for next year as ratings soar

ITV have confirmed ‘Love Island’ will return next year – after the final broke a ratings record for ITV2.
The popular show has been recommissioned for a fifth series after an audience of 3.6 million viewers, peaking at 4.1 million, tuned in to see Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham triumph over second placed Laura Anderson and Paul Knops, third Josh Denzel and Kaz Crossley and fourth Megan Barton Hanson and Wes Nelson to win the final and take home the £50,000 prize money.
Paul Mortimer, ITV’s Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions said: "’Love Island’ was once again the must-see show of the summer.
"At ITV2, we were thrilled with the level of younger viewer engagement to the extent that it broke all our previous audience records and is now firmly established as the biggest ever series in the multi-channel space. The main show, The ‘Hot List’ and ‘Aftersun’ have all helped propel ITV2 towards what will undoubtedly be its most successful year so far. "
With 2.6 million viewers tuning in for last year’s Love Island final, this year’s figures have made this year’s finale the most-watched episode on ITV2 to date.
And as the reality show boasted such large figures, ‘Love Island’ has been commissioned in six overseas territories, with Sweden, Norway and Denmark in line to broadcast their own versions later this year and series two of ‘Love Island Germany’ set to air later in the summer.
The ‘Love Island’ app was downloaded 3 million times and became Britain’s most followed show on Instagram with 2.1 million followers.
And the programme has even has broken records with its sales of branded water bottles, similar to those used by the contestants.
