Jeremy Vine quits Points of View

Jeremy Vine has quit ‘Points of View’.
The ‘Eggheads’ presenter – who was recently confirmed to replace Matthew Wright on ‘The Wright Stuff’ – has departed the show after 10 years at the helm, and admitted the programme, which sees viewers offer their opinions on BBC TV shows, put him in a "privileged position".
He said: "I thought after 10 years hosting this wonderful show I should move on. It’s given me such a privileged position to look at everything the BBC does on TV – watching it all from your point of view. You’re the person who matters most in this place.
"Thanks for your company on Sunday afternoons. Thanks for all the comments, good and bad. Keep them coming."
The BBC have confirmed the programme will return for a new series this autumn, but the show will no longer be presenter-led in order to "refresh the series and allow more time for audience feedback".
David Brindley, head of commissioning, popular factual and factual entertainment, praised Jeremy’s "warmth and familiarity" as he thanked him for his 10 years’ service.
He said: "With his dry sense of humour, warmth and familiarity, Jeremy has been helping to broadcast viewer complaints and appreciations for the last 10 years.
"I’d like to thank him for all his work and commitment to the series and we look forward to ‘Points of View’ continuing to offer a unique space for our viewers to have their say."
Jeremy’s decision comes just weeks after Channel 5 confirmed he will take over from departed host Matthew from September 2018.
He wrote on Twitter: "I’m so excited by this. The show is a perfect fit with my ongoing role @BBCRadio2 and I’ve often watched the wonderful Matthew Wright with envy and admiration. More soon. Thanks for all the messages. (sic)"
Matthew hosted ‘The Wright Stuff’ for the final time in May, and chocked back the tears during his last episode.
He told viewers: "I’d like to thank you at home.
"Eighteen years we have spent together. That is a long time for stuff to happen. I got divorced. Coming in to do the show that day, the day of a break-up, that was an experience."
