Jeremy Vine to replace Matthew Wright on The Wright Stuff

Channel 5 have confirmed Jeremy Vine will replace Matthew Wright on ‘The Wright Stuff’.
The BBC Radio 2 presenter cannot wait to take over from the 52-year-old TV host – who quit in May after 18 years at the helm – and admits taking the reins on the programme will be the "perfect fit" alongside his daily radio commitment, ‘The Jeremy Vine Show’.
He wrote on Twitter: "I’m so excited by this. The show is a perfect fit with my ongoing role @BBCRadio2 and I’ve often watched the wonderful Matthew Wright with envy and admiration. More soon. Thanks for all the messages."
Jeremy, 53, will take over on the daily current affairs show, which dissects and discusses the big news stories from around the UK, from September 2018.
Ben Frow, director of programmes for Channel 5 said: "Jeremy Vine is a brilliant broadcaster whose supreme ability to make challenging stories accessible to a wider audience, not to mention his intellect, energy and wit, makes him the perfect choice to present our daily current affairs show.
"This high calibre of talent across our news, documentary, current affairs and factual output demonstrates the evolution of the Channel 5 content slate.
"I’d like to thank Matthew Wright, who has helped make the show such a success for nearly two decades."
Matthew admitted he "shed a few tears" after making the decision to step down from the programme – which he has hosted since 2000 – but is keen to "try something new".
He recently said in a statement: "After almost 18 glorious years on Channel 5 and the show flying high in the ratings, I feel it’s time to move and try my hand at something new."
He also wrote on Twitter: "Trending on twitter…I shd quit more often…seriously tho thank you for all the messages. A few tears shed. But nice tears…x (sic)"
