Gracie Abrams reacts to ‘nuts’ number one album news

Gracie Abrams has thanked fans for their support after earning her first ever number one album on the Billboard 200 chart with Daughter From Hell.

The record, Gracie’s third full-length studio album, sold 124,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 23, meaning the singer achieved her best week ever by units too.

The highest Gracie got on the chart – which ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. – with her last album The Secret of Us was number two, in July 2024.

Following the news of Daughter From Hell reaching the top spot, Gracie took to her Instagram Stories to celebrate.

Sharing Billboard’s announcement of her hitting number one, she wrote: “Whoa, thank you so much.

“This is nuts, and entirely your doing!! Thank you.”

Gracie became the sixth act of 2026 to land their first Billboard 200 number one, following Noah Kahan, Ella Langley, Megan Moroney, Don Toliver and Megadeth.

She has established herself as one to watch in the music industry, despite being called a “nepo baby” due to having J.J. Abrams as her dad and Hollywood producer Katie McGrath as her mum.

But Gracie insisted in a previous interview that she “understands” the discourse around her.

During an appearance on The New York Times‘ Popcast podcast, Gracie said: “The nepo stuff is obviously in the discourse appropriately.

“I think about the privilege there, and it’s like, I had a safety net, and that allowed me the ability to experiment and to concentrate and I had the gift of time to dedicate to doing this thing I loved.

“I wasn’t growing up afraid financially, and that’s the biggest deal.”

Gracie is also half of a power couple, as she’s dating Normal People and Hamnet star Paul Mescal.

And the pair even teamed up to write a song together, with the resulting track being Imaginary Friend – which features on Daughter From Hell.

Speaking about writing with her other half, Gracie said she came forward with her co-writer’s identity because she “doesn’t like the feeling of hiding”.

She explained: “I always try to assume the absolute worst case scenario of everything, and then anything else is like pleasant.

“I also think if you know how happy your experience was making something, or how much you learned about yourself or your partner, or whatever the thing is, no amount of hate or trolling could take that away.

“I think that’s a part of my life that brings me so much peace and joy and I’m not going to pretend like that’s not true, but I also think it’s not like an open door policy.”
