John Lithgow says he and Will Ferrell are comedy soulmates

John Lithgow says he and Will Ferrell are comedy soulmates.
The 72-year-old actor stars as Don Whittaker the father to Ferrell’s alter ego Brad Whitaker in the new comedy sequel ‘Daddy’s Home 2’ alongside Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg as father and son.
Lithgow admits he and Ferrell’s comedy comes from the "same dumb innocent place" which makes them a convincing father and son combo.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz at the UK premiere of ‘Daddy’s Home 2’ at Vue Cinema, in London’s Leicester Square, Lithgow said: "Will and I are made for each other. Our comedy come from the same dumb innocent place and you can really imagine us as father and son I think. He just makes me feel funny."
The new film – helmed by Sean Anders – follows father and stepfather Dusty (Wahlberg) and Brad (Ferrell) who join forces to make Christmastime perfect for the children their jointly raise.
However, when Dusty’s old-school, macho dad Kurt (Gibson) and Brad’s gentle father Jonah (Lithgow) arrive they turn the holidays upside down.
After a sudden change of plans, the four men decide to take the kids to a luxury resort for a getaway which turns into a chaotic adventure.
Lithgow admits Ferrell, 50, and Wahlberg, 46, were very welcoming to him and Gibson, 61, and encouraged them both to "improvise" and be creative on set.
He said: "It was like leaping aboard a speeding train. These guys had already done one movie together, two if you count ‘The Other Guys’, and they just welcome you into the process. They say come on leap aboard we are not stopping for you and we had a wonderful script and we were encouraged to be creative and improvise when necessary. I liked the first film a lot and then I just felt so lucky to be brought aboard."
