Prince Harry wants to keep the "magic" of the royal family alive.
The flame-haired royal and his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Duchess Catherine are keen to "modernise" the monarchy but want to keep the core values at its heart still.
He said: "It’s a tricky balancing act [between royals seeming to be like normal people]. We don’t want to dilute the magic …The British public and the whole world need institutions like it.
"The monarchy is a force for good and we want to carry on the positive atmosphere that the Queen has achieved for over 60 years, but we won’t be trying to fill her boots."
And Prince Harry – who is dating actress Meghan Markle – says they are trying to modernise the monarchy for the "greater good of the people".
He added: "We are involved in modernising the British monarchy. We are not doing this for ourselves but for the greater good of the people … Is there any one of the royal family who wants to be king or queen? I don’t think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time …
"The Queen has been fantastic in letting us choose. She tells us to take our time and really think things through."
It is thought that when the younger royals take to the throne, they will be patrons of far less charities than the Queen currently is, something which a source insists is not down to laziness but rather so they can focus on specific charities that they can get involved with regularly.
The insider told Newsweek: "They want instead to concentrate on specific charities that they research thoroughly first and then get involved in on a regular basis. The one thing they don’t want is to be seen as a group of celebrities."
