Robert Carlyle hints at Trainspotting 3

Robert Carlyle has hinted there will be a third ‘Trainspotting’ film based on his own character.
The 55-year-old actor has reprised his role as the psychotic Francis ‘Franco’ Begbie in ‘T2: Trainspotting’ – director Danny Boyle’s follow-up to the 1996 original – and has suggested he may be back again for another outing as the mustached menace.
Author Irvine Welsh released another book featuring Begbie, ‘The Blade Artist’, last year and Robert thinks scenes in ‘T2’ featuring his character getting to grips with fatherhood are a perfect lead in for a third movie.
He said: "That is the first time you see maybe there is another side to this guy.
"There is something quite emotional about that. He’s capable of feeling something more just rage, so I am pleased that that element of Begbie has been shown.
"And maybe that sets up another film in fact because Irvine Welsh has written ‘The Blade Artist’."
While ‘T2’ was loosely based on ‘Porno’ Welsh’s second tale of the drug-addicted group, it is not a complete take on the novel, and Robert is unsure whether a third film would follow the plot of Begbie living a reformed life in the US, as he is in ‘The Blade Artist’.
Speaking on the orange carpet at the Edinburgh premiere of the movie on Sunday (22.01.17), he said: "We’ve been talking about that, I am up for doing it.
"So maybe we ain’t seen the end of Begbie just yet."
While director Danny had always felt it important for time to elapse before tackling the sequel to the hard-hitting first movie, Robert admitted he had started having doubts as to whether a second installment would ever be on the cards as the years went by.
He said: "It’s been 20 years coming, it’s been a long time coming.
"We always felt that we would do it, but as the years went by, you thought is this ever really going to happen.
Danny was always determined we were going to be 20 years older before he was going to shoot it."
