Keeley Hawes cast in Doctor Who

Keeley Hawes has joined the cast of ‘Doctor Who’.

The ‘Line of Duty’ actress has wowed audiences with her portrayal of Detective Inspector Lindsay Drake in the BBC Two series and she is now set to make a guest appearance as Ms Delphox in an episode of ‘Doctor Who’, alongside Peter Capaldi in his first series as the famous Time Lord.

She said of the role: "I am delighted to join Doctor Who and to be working with this incredible team. Ms Delphox is a great character and someone I’ve had a lot of fun playing."

The episode – which is scheduled to air in autumn this year – will see Keeley take on the role of an out-of-this world character with a dark secret, who comes face-to-face with the Doctor and his companion, Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), when they arrive on a "strange and puzzling planet".

Douglas Mackin – who also directs ‘Line of Duty’ – helmed the episode, which was written by ‘Sherlock’ writer Steve Thompson.

Speaking about Keeley’s casting, Doctor Who’s executive producer, Steven Moffat, said: "Anyone watching Jed Mercurio’s amazing ‘Line of Duty’ will know that Keeley Hawes is having one hell of a year. And now it’s about to get even better as she achieves the greatest villainy yet attempted on ‘Doctor Who’: she plays a banker."

The new series is currently being filmed and will return to BBC One later this year.
