Viggo Mortensen compares his new movie to Interstellar

Viggo Mortensen claims his new film tells the same story as ‘Interstellar’ for "a fraction of the cost".

The 56-year-old actor is currently starring in ‘Jauja’ – in which he borrows a horse to go rescue his daughter after she runs off – and he insists it follows the same basic premise as the Hollywood blockbuster without the massive expense.

He said: "’Jauja is an interesting case in how you can do so much with such little money. If you take a movie like ‘Interstellar’, which was a very interesting film, most of the important topics in it are the same – family relationships, linear time, who we are and what are we doing, where are we going, survival – and they are dealt with for a fraction of the cost in ‘Jauja’."

The ‘Lord of the Rings’ star – who will next appear in a French film titled ‘Far From Men’ and independent movie ‘Captain Fantastic’ – admits that while he sometimes goes unrecognised altogether, he is most often associated with the film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels.

Asked what he gets recognised for, he told the Metro newspaper: "Sometimes I don’t at all but usually it’s for ‘The Lord of the Rings’ or ‘Eastern Promises’ … I’ve had some people say ‘The Two Faces of January’."

Mortensen also admits he’s still friends with many of his co-stars from the hit movies, which also starred Elijah Wood, Sean Bean, Sir Ian McKellen and Orlando Bloom.

He added: "I have several friends from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ – we worked together for such a long time."
