‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ has been banned in India despite the sex scenes being edited out.
The Central Board of Film Certification have refused to allow the erotic film to be shown in cinemas across the country.
A reason for the refusal was not given but it is likely to be because of the sexual content.
However, all nudity was removed from the film as well as most of the sex scenes toned down but the film was still banned by the Indian authorities.
The chief executive of the Central Board of Film Certification, Shravan Kumar did not wish to comment on why the film had been banned but insisted that Universal Pictures would be able to appeal the decision if they so wished.
The movie – which stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele – is adapted from E. L. James’ bestselling novel of the same name.
It has already been banned in Malaysia, Indonesia and Kenya whilst the film’s distributor, Comcast Corp, chose not to release it in China as the country tends to ban films that are sexually explicit.
The film has grossed £262 million worldwide.
