Zara Larsson was ‘scared’ PinkPantheress had replaced her with Kylie Minogue on Stateside

Zara Larsson was “really scared” PinkPantheress had replaced her with Kylie Minogue.

The 28-year-old singer was delighted to be asked to record a remix of Stateside for the star’s Fancy Some More? collection, but she had a nervous moment when she saw the pop icon’s name next to another version.

She told PEOPLE magazine: “I got really scared, like, ‘Oh my God, what if she hated it? I thought she liked it.’

“But then it turned out she had, like, a million people on the remixes, which I think is actually a really fun way to do it.”

There are another two versions of Stateside on the remix album, which feature Bladee and Groove Armada respectively.

The Midnight Sun hitmaker is a huge fan of PinkPantheress, describing her as “so cute and very, very, very talented”, while she loves how “unapologetically herself” the star is in her career.

She recalled: “I actually DM’ed her two days before she asked me to jump on the remix, like, ‘Queen.’ I think that’s all I said.

“She was like, ‘Hey queen.’ I just went, ‘I love you.’ I wanted to show some love.

“I was on a love spree. I just DM’ed a bunch of pop girlies, like, ‘Queen.’ I just want to appreciate all the girls who are killing it.”

From there, PinkPantheress threw out the idea of them working together, which was an easy decision for Zara to make.

She added: “I was like, ‘Duh, I would love that.’ And she was like, ‘I’m doing this remix album. Are you down to do a song?’ I was like, ‘Yes.’ “

She laid down the vocals for her verse “somewhere in middle America” while she was supporting Tate McRae on her Miss Possessive Tour.

She revealed: “It was cute, boom boom boom boom boom, wrote my verse, sent it in, and then it was out like four days later.”

Her Stateside remix – which dropped in October 2025 – has peaked at number 83 in the Billboard Hot 100 charts, while a music video dropped on January 15 and pulled in almost 10 million views in less than 10 days.

Zara said: “People also seem to like it, which makes me really excited.”
