Yungblud announces new version of Zombie with The Smashing Pumpkins

Yungblud has teamed up with The Smashing Pumpkins on a reworked version of fan-favourite Zombie.

Released worldwide at midnight, the new heavier version of the single from the rocker’s album Idols comes accompanied by a music video, which will follow later today (02.01.26).

The musician – real name Dominic Harrison – posted several images to confirm the release on social media. One shows him with Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, another features the full band, and a final graphic lists the video premiere times by major city.

The project highlights Yungblud’s long‑standing connection to the band’s catalogue. In a recent Loudwire interview, he said the Pumpkins’ 1993 album Siamese Dream was a major reference point while he was developing Zombie.

He explained: “When I was making ‘Zombie,’ I was really channeling Siamese Dream.

“It was really the sadness and the melancholic emotion mixed with the aggression of Billy’s guitars. Billy, as a songwriter, was really at the forefront of my inspiration when I was making this album. When Zombie came along, I knew I wanted to do a new version of it.”

Sharing what he wanted from his collaboration with the ’90s rocker, he went on: “I called Billy and I was like, ‘Billy, please help me scratch this itch. I want this record to dig in harder.’ There still needs to be an almost Jekyll and Hyde element, there needs to be the version that’s full of light and full of life and optimism, but then there needs to be this dark version that is pessimistic and a little bit bitter and a bit aggressive.”

Yungblud’s latest collaboration follows him teaming up with Aerosmith and the late Ozzy Osbourne.

Reflecting on meeting his heroes, he told the outlet: “What was beautiful about last year, about meeting Steven Tyler, about meeting Ozzy, about meeting Billy — every great rock star has always felt the same. Isn’t it funny that every f****** great rock star was always hated? It almost encourages you more to use it as fuel and fight back.”
