Years and Years new single is ‘unashamedly disco’

Years & Years’ new single ‘Meteorite’ is "unashamedly disco and upbeat".
The pop trio’s frontman Olly Alexander has teased what to expect from their first new single in over a year – which was written for the upcoming movie ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ – and has joked that he wants to be just like the titular "wanton sex goddess" character played by Renee Zellweger.
Of their new track, Olly, 26, said: "We wanted to make something unashamedly disco and upbeat. I can’t wait for people to hear it!
"If there’s anyone I’d like to be it’s Bridget- a wanton sex goddess with a very bad man between her thighs."
The new track – which will be released on September 16 – was debuted by the ‘Desire’ hitmakers at Bestival music festival on the Isle of Wight over the weekend.
The song will be released as part of the ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ Original Soundtrack alongside singles such as Ellie Goulding’s ‘Still Falling For You’, Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and Jess Glynne’s ‘Hold My Hand’.
It comes after Olly – who is joined by Mike Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen in the group – said he’d like them to be the first band to perform live in space.
He previously said: "We could perform in space or be the first band to play moon, but we want to be the first ‘Star Wars’ band.
"We want to be the band in the Mos Esley, canteen in the next ‘Star Wars.’"
Meanwhile, fans expecting a new album from the trio may have to wait a while as Olly admits he’s been distracted by playing ‘Pokemon Go’.
However, he wants their next record to be completely different to their debut LP, 2015’s ‘Communion’.
Asked if they are working on their next record, Olly admitted: "We haven’t started yet, I think we might try and do something different just to amuse ourselves more than anything."
