Writer launches lawsuit over Frozen plot

Disney movie ‘Frozen’ is the target of a $250 million (£154 million) plagiarism lawsuit filed by Peruvian writer Isabella Tanikumi.

The writer alleges the film is closely based on her life, citing 18 specific instances in which the film has supposedly copied from her memoir.

Entitled ‘Living My Truth and Yearnings of the Heart’, Tanikumi’s memoirs detail her experiences as a youngster living near the Andes.

The Guardian newspaper reports that the the memoirs feature two sisters who become closer in light of an earthquake, which causes the death of a loved one, in addition to suitors whose names Hans and Cristoff.

What’s more, the memoir tells the story of one sister injuring the other and subsequently going into hiding due to her own shame..

This is not the first time ‘Frozen’ has been the subject of such claims.

It has previously been alleged that the hit movie is based on – and not just inspired by – Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale ‘The Snow Queen’.

The film, which was released last year, earned more than $1 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.

Meanwhile, a short follow-up to the original flick – which starred Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel – will be released in 2015.
