Woman voiced Dalek for first time on New Year’s Day Doctor Who

A woman voiced a Dalek for the first time in 66 years on the New Year’s Day special of ‘Doctor Who’.
While filming the episode entitled ‘Resolution’ – which aired on January 1 rather than the traditional festive timeslot on December 25 – show bosses used a female assistant on set because veteran voiceover star Nicholas Briggs was unavailable at the time, but the BBC added his vocals in the final edit so unfortunately the lady Dalek was never heard by fans on-screen.
According to the Daily Star, bosses used a woman assistant on set to shout "exterminate" repeatedly when the classic sci-fi monster appeared in scenes with Jodie Whittaker.
The 36-year-old actress stepped into the iconic role for her first series in the last year – following on from Peter Capaldi’s incarnation of the Time Lord – and previously gushed she is glad to have made history.
She said: "I’ve never walked round thinking, ‘I’m a girl in this situation’ – [though] there have been times where I’ve realised that there may have been some doors that were at a different angle to me, because of being a woman.
"I suppose playing the Doctor, because it’s an alien, and because the Doctor has two hearts, it means you don’t need any qualifications, you just need to go like that [gesturing outwards, with open arms] and that can be boy or girl.
"I think we knew that, but it’s wonderful to be the first person in a position to really say, ‘See? We can do it!’ "
It has been confirmed that the next series of ‘Doctor Who’ – which will see Jodie return alongside Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole – will not return until 2020.
