William Roache paid a touching tribute to his late ‘Coronation Street’ co-star Anne Kirkbride at the National Television Awards tonight (21.01.15).
The 82-year-old actor, who played Ken Barlow on the ITV soap, said he felt "so blessed, honoured and privileged" to have worked alongside the "beautiful" actress, who played his on-screen wife Deirdre Barlow, for more than 40 years.
Speaking on stage at the event in London, he said: "The nation seemed to want us together and I feel so blessed, honoured and privileged to have had those years working with Anne.
"What we will remember most is the vibrant, warmhearted, loving person who came to work each day, gave us all a hug and brightened up our lives.
"We’ve been deeply touched by the outpouring of love for Anne since she passed away.
"We share your grief and sadness at losing such a beautiful person who will be so greatly missed by us all. I love you Anne. Thank you."
William joined the actress’ husband David Beckett at her hospital bedside to say a final goodbye before she passed away aged 60 in Manchester on Monday (19.01.15).
The actress is said to have refused the treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer, causing the disease to spread to her brain.
