Will Poulter to play evil clown in It

Will Poulter will play an evil clown in the remake of Stephen King’s ‘It’.

The ‘We’re The Millers’ star will appear in the latest adaptation of the novel – which was also made into a TV miniseries in 1991 – as Pennywise, a monster who dresses as a clown and attempts to lure children into danger.

‘True Detective’ director Cary Fukunaga will helm the picture, which follows a group of kids who face up to a group of monsters who are terrorising their hometown, reports Variety.

The size of the novel means the film with be split in two, but Fukunga has insisted the plot will stay as close to the original text as possible after penning the script alongside Chase Palmer.

While it was first thought the role of Pennywise would go to an older actor, sources close to the director have revealed he was blown away by the 22-year-old star’s audition.

Insider’s added that movie bosses are sure Poulter is ready to take on a darker character after starring as a robber in ‘The Revenant’ alongside Leonardo DiCapario, who leaves DiCaprio’s character to die after he is mauled by a bear.

A release date is yet to be set for ‘It’, while ‘The Revenant’ will open on December 25.
