Will Ferrell: Zoolander’s Mugatu is twice as psycho

Will Ferrell’s villainous character Jacobim Mugatu is "twice as psychotic" in ‘Zoolander No. 2’ .

The 48-year-old actor reprises his role as the evil fashion genius in Ben Stiller’s comedy sequel and revealed it was a "thrill" to return to his alter ego, who is so evil he even murders Justin Bieber in the film.

Speaking at the UK premiere of the film at the Empire Leicester Square in London on Thursday night (04.02.16), he said: "It’s great to be back. It’s great to be here with all these wonderful people. It is a thrill to play the most misunderstood fashion genius Mugatu. In this one I think I’m almost twice as psychotic as I am in the first one. He’s been in prison for 16 years, in fashion prison, and he comes back out to seek vengeance on the fashion world."

As well as Bieber, a host of famous faces such as Ariana Grande, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West all lined up to be killed off by Mugatu for the crime of being "beautiful".

Although Ferrell enjoys lampooning the fashion industry in the film, he actually has a lot of respect for designers and models and the work they do – even if he doesn’t always understand it.

He said: "There’s a lot of material because on one hand fashion really is an art form you’ll watch runways shows and you’ll see beautiful items of clothing that you really have a lot of respect for and on the other hand you’re like, who would wear that, ever? And why?"

Ferrell was joined on the special blue carpet rolled out for the ‘Zoolander No. 2’ premiere by his co-stars Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig and Stiller – who plays titular character Derek Zoolander.

Other stars in attendance included models Jourdan Dunn, Paul Sculfor and Lara Stone, ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Natalie Dormer, Millie Mackintosh and Kimberley Wyatt.
