Will Ferrell planning Flintstones remake

Will Ferrell is planning a ‘Flintstones’ remake.

The ‘Anchorman’ star and his comedy co-writer Adam McKay are working on a new animated big screen version of the classic cartoon via their production company, Gary Sanchez.

The duo have enlisted the help of ‘The Other Guys’ scribe Chris Henchy to bring the pre-historic gang, comprised of Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble and their respective wives Wilma and Betty, to life, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Backed by Warner Bros., Ferrell and McKay’s movie is expected to be a few years in the making as no start date has yet been set.

This marks the first time ‘The Flintstones’ – which first aired on TV in 1960 and ran until 1966 – has been made into an animated movie.

In 1994, John Goodman and Rick Moranis starred in a live-action adaptation, but its 2000 sequel, ‘Viva Rock Vegas’, was less of a success.

Meanwhile, in 2011 ‘Family Guy’ creator Seth MacFarlane agreed to executive produce a new TV series about the loveable Stone Age characters, set for production by Fox Television and Warner Bros., but the project has been delayed.
