Wes Nelson spills on Love Island secrets

Former ‘Love Island’ star Wes Nelson claims the producers insist that the contestants are stripped off at all times during the day.
The hunky TV personality got to the final of the 2018 series of the ITV dating reality show with his girlfriend Megan Barton-Hanson – whom he split from at the start of 2019 – and he has now lifted the lid on what happens behind-the-scenes on the programme and has spilled that the producers don’t like to see the contestants covered up in hoodies or anything else and instruct them to take their clothes off for the cameras.
In an interview on the Capital Breakfast show with Roman Kemp, Vick Hope and Sonny Jay, he said: "I used to try and go out in a hoodie and heavily clothed in the morning because sometimes it is a bit chilly but yeah, you’d have to take that off. Obviously, sometimes we’d like to be in the shade a bit of the day because it is roasting hot, so when you’re in the shade it is actually quite cold. So me and Josh used to run out all the time in little hoodies and they’d be like, ‘Wes take that off!’ "
Wes also revealed that there is no let up for the contestants during their tenure and even when they are given a day off members of the production team are with them to monitor what they’re talking about what they’re doing.
He spilled: "You do get a day off. The first time that we had a day off was three weeks in and then I think we had four in total. But it’s not to the beach, we never got the beach! We went to a holding villa but they monitor everything, they make sure you’re not having any saucy chats. But it’s quite nice to not have any drama and have chat chats, it’s nice to just chill."
The former ‘Dancing On Ice’ star also revealed that none of the islanders ever know what time it is during their time in the villa which is frustrating.
He said: "You don’t know the time of day in the villa or the holding villa and we all had different times."
As well as having a chef on hand all day to cook up meals for the contestants, Wes’ final revelation is that the would-be daters don’t have to clean up after themselves as staff come in to pick up their litter and make sure the villa is in tip-top condition.
He explained: "There’s little runners that run around basically, all day every day, there are people that run around in the night. Sometimes you’ll hear them changing the mics when you’re asleep and they’ll be next to you and they’ll change the mic and you’ll just open and make really awkward eye contact with them like [whispers], ‘Hi you alright?’ ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, shh, shh, shh.’ ‘OK, OK, OK.’ And then you go back to sleep again, because obviously you leave your mics on the bedside table so they can change them so they’re ready and fresh for the morning. It’s odd, you wake up and there’s just some geezer stood over your bed, just stood there."
