Wendi Peters "never considered" returning to ‘Coronation Street’.
The 46-year-old actress is to reprise her role as Cilla Battersby-Brown in the ITV soap later this month and although she’s looking forward to her return, she admits she hasn’t really missed it.
She explained: "It was a shock when the phone went and it was my agent telling me she’d had Granada on.
"I had put Cilla to bed completely and I had moved on. Returning was something I had never really considered and there wasn’t a point where I though I would quite like to be back."
Wendi is to return as her on-screen daughter Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Brown) prepares for maternity leave and her character Cilla’s shocking secret is to form part of her exit-story.
She continued to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I have been lucky as I have been busy with theatre roles since leaving Corrie. But this opportunity seemed ideal as it is for a short period and it’s lovely to come back to help get Jennie out for maternity leave.
"The fact my on-screen daughter is having a baby in real life makes me feel like I am going to be a real granny."
Meanwhile, the soap star is nervous about her own daughter Gracie, 14, and her friends seeing her horrible on-screen persona.
She added: "When she was seven, her friends didn’t watch Corrie, they had no idea what it was all about and so nobody knew who I was.
"I was just Gracie’s mum. Now they are going to watch it and see that Cilla’s not a very nice person."
