Weezer announce The Gold Album and it’s coming soon

Weezer will release The Gold Album this summer.

The Buddy Holly rockers have announced the seventh album in their long-running colour coded self titled series of records, which will also mark their 16th studio album since their debut, The Blue Album, dropped in 1994.

In an Instagram post, the band revealed: “Plated in what surface instruments call gold. It bears the name Weezer.

“Its surface is marked by four symbols believed to represent its creators.

“Carry it with you to the Gathering, and witness what follows.”

The record, following the Blue, Green Red, White, Teal and Black LPs, will drop on August 21, a shortly before The Gathering Tour gets started the following month.

The 10-track LP is the first LP from the band – made up of Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell and Scott Shriner – since 2021’s Van Weezer.

Shine Again, which dropped in April, was the lead single for the record, while new Wednesday collaboration We Might As Well Be Strangers.

The LP has been produced by Produced by Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume, formerly known as Kenny Beats.

According to a press release, the record is set to be the “the most violent Weezer album ever”.

Meanwhile, the My Name Is Jonas stars previously made waves in 2018 with their cover of Toto’s hit Africa, but the original band weren’t impressed by the tone.

Early in 2025, Toto guitarist Steve Lukather told Matt Pinfield’s New and Approved show: “I don’t know about him loving the song, man. I don’t think that’s the case at all.

“I think he did it to take the p*** out of it and it blew up in his face and now he’s got to play it every night.

“I tried to reach out to this guy and be friendly and then it just got weird.”

Steve insisted he wouldn’t “get into” the details, but conceded that the success of the cover – which led to Toto performing Weezer’s 2001 track ‘Hash Pipe’ – was “good” for both bands.

He added: “I don’t want to get into it, but peace and love. It was good for them, it was good for us.”
