Warner Bros. announces release date for Godzilla sequel

Warner Bros. has confirmed plans to make a ‘Godzilla’ sequel.

The studio said the eagerly-awaited sequel to the blockbuster film will be released in the US on June 8, 2018, and also revealed Gareth Edwards will return to direct the new flick.

Edwards is currently hard at work developing one of the spin-off films for the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, which is set to keep him occupied for the foreseeable future.

Despite this, the British film director has already had some influence over the sequel, hinting recently that fans can expect to see classic God-botherers Motha, Rodan and Ghidorah in the new film.

The first Edwards-directed ‘Godzilla’ film received a mixed reception from critics, yet performed impressively well at the box office, raking in around $500 million worldwide.

Edwards was recently linked to a central role in a new film based on King Kong’s home, Skull Island.

Legendary Entertainment released a short teaser trailer for the film at a Comic Con event staged last month.

The movie is set to be released in November 2016, nearly two years before the ‘Godzilla’ sequel will hit cinema screens.
