Victoria Ekanoye’s mum cried when she got Coronation Street role

Victoria Ekanoye’s mother "cried and screamed" when she landed her role in ‘Coronation Street’.
The soap newcomer bagged the role of bolshie Angie Appleton – the wife of Mary Taylor’s long-lost son Jude – in the show earlier this year and her mum couldn’t wait to watch her debut scenes, which aired last week, because was ecstatic when she found out she was joining the long-running programme.
Speaking to The Daily Star newspaper, she said: "My mum cried and screamed when I told her I was joining ‘Corrie’. It’s such a big show for our family. We all watched it growing up. I used to put on ‘Corrie’ shows and musicals when I was a child and I always wanted to be Bet Lynch behind the bar.
"It all happened really fast. I did the screen test and audition on one day and then eight days later I found out I had the job. Three weeks later I was on set filming. I auditioned with Patti Clare who plays Mary and at the end she hugged me.
"I am used to acting being quite dog-eat-dog so I knew then I really wanted to job. I was most excited to meet Noris, played by Malcolm Hebden. He’s such a character on screen and he was so hilarious. I started in June and there’s hasn’t been a day yet he hasn’t made me laugh."
The brunette beauty certainly caused a stir when her alter ego rocked up in Weatherfield and appeared to lock horns with fan-favourite Mary (Patti) but she has admitted there’s more to come as bosses have thrown her an explosive storyline, which will hit television screens later this year.
She explained: "I have a really good and quite gritty storyline coming up. It’s not something that has been done a lot in soaps before so it is a challenge. You associate Mary and Norris with comedy, but this a high drama and affects so many people."
