Sheridan Smith to play Cilla Black

Sheridan Smith will play Cilla Black in a new ITV drama.
The 'Mrs. Biggs' actress is set to portray the legendary British entertainer in a new three-part series titled 'Cilla'.
The drama will follow Cilla's rise to fame in 1960s Liverpool, including her friendship with The Beatles after catching the attention of their manager Brian Epstein, who would go on to turn her into a recording artist.
The series will also depict Cilla's early on/off relationship with her former husband Bobby Willis, a baker who struggled with the star's determination to succeed as a singer.
Sheridan said: "I am thrilled to be playing Cilla, as she is a British icon. In the '60s, as a young girl from Liverpool, she had numerous number ones and sang with The Beatles, her life story is fascinating."
The series was written by Oscar-nominated writer Jeff Pope and will be directed by Paul Whittington, who also directed 'Mrs. Biggs'.
ITV's director of drama Steve November said: "Jeff's scripts offer an extraordinary insight into Cilla's humble beginnings and meteoric rise to chart success. He captures Liverpool life back in the '60s through her eyes and it's fascinating to thinking of her hanging out back stage at the Cavern Club with The Beatles."
The series will begin shooting in Liverpool next month.

Kylie Minogue wants sister Dannii pack on X Factor panel

Kylie Minogue has urged Simon Cowell to put Dannii Minogue back on 'The X Factor' judging panel.
The 45-year-old singer believes her sister - who was on the panel from 2007 to 2010 - has done really well since joining the Australian version of the show last year and will benefit the UK programme.
She said: "Dannii has done so well on 'X Factor Australia', she won it with her artist.
"She's got better and better and this year, in the words of ['X Factor' UK judge] Louis Walsh, she nailed it! So yes, I would like to see her back."
The 54-year-old music mogul is currently making the final decision on who he would like on the judging panel alongside him this year, with Cheryl Cole - who was on the show from 2008 to 2010 - believed to be one of his firm choices.
Kylie added to The Sun newspaper: "I think I'm with the whole country when I say the show has been missing her and Simon and Cheryl.
"It would be very exciting to see them back."
Having Dannii, 42, back on the panel could recreate the on-screen chemistry between her and Simon, who the music mogul admitted to having an affair with in his 2012 autobiography, and boost ratings.
However, Simon welcomed his first child son Eric into the world at the weekend with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman.
Meanwhile, Dannii - who has also appeared as a judge on 'Australia's Got Talent' - also has three-year-old son Ethan with her ex-boyfriend Kris Smith.

Peter Andre: I’ve ‘overdone’ reality shows

Peter Andre thinks he has "overdone" reality TV.
The 40-year-old singer - who competed in 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here' in 2004, where he came third - admits there are a number of reality shows which are entertaining but doesn't see himself opting to star in any in the near future.
He said: "'Celebrity Big Brother' is one of those shows which a lot of people are glued to watching. I don't know if I would set myself up for a fall being in that situation. I don't know if I could cope. Whereas 'I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here', you're in the jungle, you have trials to do to try and win food.
"There are some great reality shows out there but I think I've overdone them right now. You're probably sick of me."
He added: "Reality is so big at the moment."
Peter - who became a father again last month to one-month-old daughter Amelia, who he has with fiancée Emily MacDonagh - is currently working on his forthcoming album, which he is anticipating for a May 2014 release.
He explained to BBC Radio 2: "I'd like to think [it will be released around] May time. We're working in the studio now. I have paternity leave for the next three weeks, and after that it'll be straight in the studio."

Jim Davidson won’t do TV presenting

Jim Davidson has no interest in returning to TV.
The 60-year-old comic - who recently won 'Celebrity Big Brother' - insists he has reached his "shelf life" for television presenting and doesn't want to return as he doesn't think he could compete with younger stars like Ant and Dec.
Asked where he wants to go following his 'CBB' win, he said: "Nowhere. Going back on TV was never something I wanted to do. I've done 'The Generation Game' and 'Big Break' and earned a million quid a year, but realistically everyone has a shelf life.
"When I think I'm as attractive or as good as Ant and Dec, then I'll be after their job, but really it's time to move on.
"No disrespect to Bruce Forsyth, you don't hang on in there. Cab drivers say to me, 'Why aren't you on TV? We're fed up of all those "8 Out of 10 Cats" shows.' TV companies seem to forget about people aged 40 and older."
Jim is still "shell-shocked" by his experiences in the 'Celebrity Big Brother' house as things weren't always comfortable.
He told Britain's OK! magazine: "I'm a bit shell-shocked by it all. All the bad food and bad wine and no sleep. I wish I hadn't done it."

David Walliams nicknamed ‘Davina’ as a child

David Walliams was called 'Davina' as a child.
The former 'Little Britain' comedian has admitted he was given a "feminine" dressing gown by his uncle, and it led to the family making jokes when he came downstairs in the mornings.
He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "My uncle bought me a feminine silk dressing gown. So when i came down to breakfast I was called Davina."
The 42-year-old star also revealed how he was nicknamed 'Daphne' while at school after he raced around the playground pretending to be Wonder Woman.
He added: "I got a reputation for being a tiny bit effeminate."
Recently, David showed his support for Davina McCall, who is competing in a Sport Relief triathlon.
He previously told BANG Showbiz: "I think it shows that in these challenges you are pushed to the absolute limit. But I know she's quite a strong person both mentally and physically.
"The best way we can get behind her is donating, because that'll be the biggest thing that will make her happiest, to know people are behind her and care."

Susanna Reid set for £1m ITV switch

Susanna Reid will take over as ITV's new breakfast show host.
The presenter is currently employed by BBC, but it is said she has been offered a £1 million deal to switch to their rivals as she looks to front her own show.
According to the Sunday People newspaper, Susanna will end her time on 'BBC Breakfast' after the broadcaster refused to promise her a higher-profile role.
It is said she will front a new early morning show on ITV - likely to be titled 'Good Morning Britain' - with new Director of Daytime Helen Warner keen to give her the chance to move away from breakfast TV is she decides to go down that route.
An insider said: "Susana is seen as the future of ITV. She is loved by millions.
"She's beautiful, intelligent and warm. She is seen as more highbrow than previous presenters who fronted the breakfast shows, which is exactly the direction ITV wants to go in."
A spokesman for ITV has insisted while changes are soon to be revealed, they remain keen to keep current 'Daybreak' host Aled Jones as a "key part" of the channel's future.
They said: "There has been a review of ITV breakfast. Some changes will be announced. Aled remains a key part of plans."

The Voice’s Kylie Minogue hates rejecting hopefuls

Kylie Minogue wanted to quit 'The Voice' because she didn't like rejecting the contestants.
The TV talent show mentor admitted having to turn down hopefuls on the show was difficult, and ending their dreams made her consider quitting.
Speaking at a Spotify music event, she said: "It can get you down a bit trying to think of ways to say no because no one wants to say that.
"The fun bits of being a coach are really fun but during the not fun bits you just don't want to be there."
Kylie explained she "doesn't really like decision-making", despite her high-profile role as a judge on the BBC singing contest.
She revealed: "It's intense. You think you're just never going to come up for air again because the days are very long.
"And for someone who doesn't really like decision-making, all day is decision-making."
However, the 'I Should Be So Lucky' hitmaker has been given the BBC's word that the contestants - whether they were successful or not - are "taken care of".
She explained: "The BBC assured me they have never had complaints from any of the contestants.
"They really get taken care of so well, whether they go through or they don't. They leave with a lot of experience."

Sctrictly’s Suzanna Shaw says it’s taking over her life

Suzanne Shaw says 'Dancing On Ice' has taken over her life.
The former Hear'Say singer won the skating contest in 2008, and admitted training for the current All-Star final series means she hasn't seen "friends for family" unless they've come to watch the show.
She told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "I love doing this and I don't want to wish it away but I have had to be disciplined off the ice.
"I've not seen my friends or family at all unless they've come down to watch me skating on Sunday nights.
"Last week I had three messages from friends on the same day, all saying, 'I've not spoken to you in ages.' "
While the show is a big deal for Suzanne, she is still making time for her son Corey, nine, and her mother - although she isn't getting to spend much time with boyfriend Sam Greenfield.
She admitted: "My priorities are skating, my mum and my nine-year-old son, Corey.
"I didn't do anything with Sam for Valentine's Day - I went home after training, put my PJs on and watched some 'Breaking Bad'. Luckily he understands it isn't forever."

Lucy Mecklenburgh is happy single

Lucy Mecklenburgh is happy being single.
The former 'The Only Way Is Essex' star split from her fiancé and fellow co-star Mario Falcone last spring, but has remained single since flings with Dan Osborne and Tom Pearce fizzled out.
The 22-year-old reality star claims she is open to the idea of falling in love again, but has decided she feels more confident and fulfilled without a man in her life.
Lucy said: "I'm in such a good place in my life and feel mentally strong, so I'm looking forward to the possibility of falling in love again. But I'm not in a rush to have a boyfriend for the sake of it.
"I now know more how a boyfriend would fit into my life, rather than me doing everything to please him and fit into his. Now I've been single for a while, I keep telling my friends they can be on their own, and happier out of the relationship - I'm the proof!"
The svelte star insists she has no regrets about airing her love life on the ITV2 reality show, which she quit after the Christmas special last year, but admits it was hard to deal with at times.
Lucy told Closer magazine: "Breaking up with someone on TV was really tough. People forget I started on 'TOWIE' when I was 19 and still living at home. I loved being on the show and don't regret it, but it was tough living my life in public."
The brunette joked she has higher standards than ever now and is looking for someone with shared interests.
She added: "I'm more picky now. Not that I want a Mr. Perfect or a Ken doll. I want someone who is ambitious and driven and I wouldn't rule out someone famous as they'd understand my lifestyle. Id also need them to love food and be into travelling and love dogs. Oh god, I do want Mr. Perfect!"
