Ant McPartlin was rushed to hospital after chopping his thumb off.
The 'Britain's Got Talent' host sought medical help at the emergency department after he caught his right thumb in a vegetable slicer while practising cutting a potato on his new gadget, called a mandoline.
He said: "I knew that to get the potatoes thin enough I'd need the proper tool but had no idea how to use one. On the Saturday night I decided to practise with it so I got one potato and gave it a go. It was a complete disaster. I ended up slicing the top of my thumb off. God, it was painful."
However, medics were unable to stitch the tip of his thumb back on and the best they could do was clean it up and wrap it in a bandage.
He explained to The Sun newspaper: "I was hoping they'd just be able to sew the tip back in and I'd be fine."
Despite his kitchen blunder, the 38-year-old star had another go at perfecting his slicing skills the next day and managed to pull off a delicious roast dinner for his wife Lisa, 37, his sidekick Dec Donnelly, 38, and Dec's girlfriend Ali Astall, 34.
Ant said: "I still got the meal on the table."

'The Big Reunion's 5th Story bonded by showering together.
Gareth Gates - who is in the band with Dane Bowers, Adam Rickitt, Kavana and Blazin' Squad's Kenzie - has joked the five-piece super-group, who formed for the new series of the ITV2 show, got to know each other in a rather intimate situation.
He quipped: "We went to a spa, didn't we ... we had a shower together."
Meanwhile, Gareth's bandmate Kenzie has admitted that his former 'Crossroads' cohorts Blazin' Squad have had some issues with him signing up for the show without them.
He said: "It wasn't great when it was announced; it wasn't the way I really wanted them to find out. Some of them haven't taken to it too kindly.
"I didn't want to do it with my former band, it worked when it worked. This is current now, I like being with the old boys."
Another Level star Dane admits he was initially going to join the show with his former band, but one of the members couldn't commit to the show and a spin-off tour.
He told The Huffington Post UK: "I just thought it would make great TV. I was going to do this with Another Level at first. One of the guys couldn't see how he could fit it in and it's a shame, I was gutted. But I've enjoyed this so much."

Paul Barber believes any new 'Only Fools and Horses' episode must deal with the real-life death of Roger Lloyd-Pack.
The 62-year-old actor plays Denzil in the classic sitcom and although he is excited about the rumours there could be a new instalment he believes the show can't be the same following the passing of Roger, who portrayed dimwitted cleaner Trigger, in January.
Paul insists Trigger's absence must be a key part of the plot in any comeback show.
When asked if it would be hard to bring the comedy back without Roger, Paul told BANG Showbiz: "Exactly, yeah. If they do bring it back, you're going to have to be showing Roger in flashbacks. The scenario could be that you have all the surviving cast members sitting in the Nag's Head and everybody is reminiscing about Trigger and it cuts to famous scenes.
"Personally, I think it would be hard for a lot of the actors because anybody who's worked with Roger knew how talented he was. You know, he was classically trained, he could do Shakespeare. It was always a buzz going into rehearsals knowing that Roger was in the scene. I used to love doing my scenes with Roger. Anybody who's ever worked with Roger looked forward to it because you just never knew how he was going to deliver his line."
The actor - who can be seen playing Captain Jack in the next episode of 'Death In Paradise' - is definitely up for reprising his role as Denzil again.
However, Paul insists he is always the last to know if there is going to be another 'Only Fools and Horses' and only found out that Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst had reprised their roles as Del Boy and Rodney for an upcoming Sport Relief sketch with David Beckham when he saw it on TV.
He said: "I didn't even know about the 'Sport Relief' sketch with Beckham until I saw a photo on the news. I am always the last one to know about 'Fools and Horses', whether we're going again or another special or anything else. It's just like Denzel's character, I'm always being stitched up, you know what I mean? One time I was in a taxi in London somewhere and the taxi driver said to me, 'Oh so you're going to be doing more 'Only Fools and Horses' then.' And I said, 'I don't know.' By the time I got home that day there was a message on my answering machine from my manager saying, 'Get down to Bristol we're going again.'
He jokingly added: "But you know, we've made so many comebacks we're beginning to sound like Frank Sinatra!"
'Death In Paradise' continues on Tuesday 18 February at 9pm on BBC One.

John Legend wants to become a coach on 'The Voice'.
The 'All Of Me' singer has revealed he was in talks to join the BBC talent show when it first started in 2012 but instead ended up joining 'Duets' in the US with Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke and Jennifer Nettles.
John exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I did something like that ['The Voice'] in the States with 'Duets' and I was actually in discussion with 'The Voice' UK a few years ago but it didn't work out.
"I don't know all the details, but I'm open to it if the time is right. I think it would be fun."
During the first series of 'The Voice', which saw Tom Jones, will.i.am, Jessie J and The Script's Danny O'Donoghue mentor acts, contestant Jaz Ellington covered John's hit song 'Ordinary People', which shot up the charts as a result of his performance.
John, 35, said: "I love it [when people cover my songs], I think it's great.
"It's good for me as an artist, it makes people say, 'Oh, I wanna hear the original song', and as a songwriter it's an honour to know other singers love your songs."
The star admits he doesn't often watch talent shows in the US or the UK but enjoys mentoring new talent and would still like to be on a judging panel in the future.
He added: "I enjoy being a part of them and mentoring and performing, but I don't really enjoy watching them."
John's album 'Love in the Future' and single 'All of Me' are out now on G.O.O.D/Columbia.

Suzanne Shaw had "snot bubbles" after being axed from 'Dancing on Ice' last night.
The former Hear'Say singer became the latest celebrity to be eliminated from the all-stars series of the ITV competition last night (16.02.14) and she admits she was overcome with emotion when the news was delivered.
Appearing on ITV's 'This Morning' earlier today (17.02.14), she said: "Last night I was really like, 'It is what it is and that's fine' ... but I actually burst into tears and I was going to Matt, with snot bubbles, 'Please just help me out right now, I need to get myself sorted!' "
Suzanne, 32, was in the skate-off with Kyran Bracken last night - despite earning her highest score of the series so far - and she admits she is "gutted" to lose her place in the competitive final series of 'Dancing on Ice'.
She lamented: "It was really difficult and it's a bitter pill to take when you feel like you've put everything into it, and the aches and pains that you go through. And I've got to be honest, I'm gutted. But at the end of the day, it is what it is."
Suzanne's skating partner Matt Evers also revealed that the petite blonde suffered a scary injury while rehearsing for last night's routine.
He explained: "In dress rehearsals she actually smacked her head when doing that move where she goes back over on top of herself. And together with the physio team, we were a little bit concerned, was she going to be all right for the show?"

Suzanne Shaw has been eliminated from 'Dancing on Ice'.
The former Hear'Say singer was up against Kyran Bracken in the skate-off on last night's (16.02.14) show, and although she's been more consistent than the former rugby star throughout the competition, an unlucky stumble during her final routine - which she blamed on her nerves - meant she was voted off by the judges.
She said: "I think it's because I haven't had experience doing the skate-off before. I really wanted to try and make it all the way to the final. I'm just glad we went out on one of our best skates."
Although the 'Pure and Simple' hitmaker made a number of mistakes during the skate-off, her first performance of the night was her strongest yet as she performed a well delivered routine to Alannah Myles' 'Black Velvet' and scored a personal best of 37 points, receiving full marks from judge Karen Barber.
The 32-year-old star won the ice skating contest in 2008 and returned for the all-star series this year with professional skater Matt Evers as her partner but she's now been booted off following the 'girls versus boys' challenge, leaving just five celebrities to battle it out for a place in the final.
Following Suzanne's departure her skate-off contender Kyran, 2009 winner Ray Quinn, former 'EastEnders' actor Sam Attwater, Beth Tweddle and 'Emmerdale's Hayley Tamaddon remain in the competition.

'Splash!' is facing the axe after losing two million viewers.
The diving competition fronted by Tom Daley ended its second series on Saturday (15.02.14) - with Diversity's Perri Kiely winning the show by beating Dan Osborne, Keith Duffy and Richard Whitehead - but ITV bosses are thought to be unimpressed by falling ratings.
The final instalment of 'Splash!' peaked at 4.4 million viewers compared to 6.5 million for the final last year.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "'Splash!' has been great fun and really captured the mood after the 2012 Olympics but ITV aren't sure it will stand the test of time.
"At the moment they're looking at ideas to replace it as well as more ideas for Tom."
The show has struggled in the ratings against BBC One's 'The Voice', which was moved to January this year after losing its own ratings battle with 'Britain's Got Talent' in April last year.
The singing competition entertained some 8.7 million viewers on Saturday night.
However, an ITV spokesperson insists it's too early to tell whether 'Splash!' will come back for a new series.
They said: "No decision has been made."

Peter Capaldi will battle the Daleks in his first series of 'Doctor Who'.
The Twelfth Doctor will fulfil a childhood dream of fighting the Time Lord's most famous adversary in the new series of the BBC sci-fi drama, despite producers initially wanting the series to be Dalek-free.
According to the Daily Star newspaper, Peter, 55, told show bosses how it had been a lifelong dream to battle with the metallic villains and so they have been written into the new series.
The actor - who has been a 'Doctor Who' fan his whole life - famously wrote to TV magazine Radio Times as a teenager, gushing over the Daleks.
In one letter he wrote: "May I congratulate you on the Terry Nation Dalek story with the twist in the tail.
"The Dalek construction plans will have no doubt inspired many a school to build their own Daleks.
"Who knows, the country could be invaded by an army of school Daleks! Ah, but we'd have Dr Who to protect us!"
Peter is currently filming the latest series of 'Doctor Who' with Jenna-Louise Coleman, who plays his companion Clara Oswald.
The show will return to BBC One in the autumn.
