'EastEnders' characters Kat and Alfie Moon are to get their own series.
The on-screen couple - played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie - will leave Albert Square later this year to start a new life in Ireland, but will return to screens with their own drama series on BBC One in 2016, which the pair have described as a "dream come true".
Shane gushed: "Both Jessie and I are absolutely thrilled to be given this amazing opportunity. To have a whole drama focussed around Kat and Alfie is a huge honour for us both and we just can't wait to start filming."
Jessie added: "I have always loved working on 'EastEnders' so when I heard of this new drama to take Kat and Alfie outside of Walford, I couldn't believe our luck. To be exploring the next chapter for Kat as well as working alongside my best mate, Shane, is a dream come true and a huge compliment."
In the series - which will consist of six hour-long episodes - viewers will see the couple leave Walford in a bid to repair their turbulent relationship, following several "huge twists" which 'EastEnders' Executive Producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has teased viewers will witness in the coming weeks.
Dominic - who has created the new series alongside the soap's team - said: "In the next few weeks on EastEnders, viewers will witness several huge twists for Kat and Alfie Moon that will change their lives forever. Now is the perfect time to take two of EastEnders' most beloved and enduring characters out of their comfort zone as they head to Ireland to search for answers to some very big questions... My team here are very excited about creating a whole new drama that stands apart from EastEnders while taking our style of storytelling to a place of stories, myth, secrets and immeasurable beauty."

Will.i.am is suffering from bronchitis.
The 40-year-old star is set to take to the stage on 'The Voice UK' this evening (04.04.15) to duet with his only act left in the competition Lucy O'Byrne, but has revealed the performance could become a nightmare because of a severe chest infection.
He admitted: "I'm ill.i.am right now. I got a cold and it turned into something worse.
"I've got a bronchial infection. It's really bad. It could affect my performance, that's the sad part of it all."
However, Will - who coaches alongside Sir Tom Jones, Rita Ora, and Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson - is insistent about continuing with the performance, despite having minimal chance to practise.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he continued: "When you're touring you get sick on the road. I've performed sick before. All you can do is be open and honest."
The news comes just a week after 'I Will Never Let You Down' hitmaker, Rita, was left in floods of tears after her only two acts left in the competition were voted out by the public.
Sir Tom said: "Rita was gutted. She said 'what have I done wrong?' It is a big thing, especially for someone new like that.
"The singers she had were gutted too, so there were three people crying in the hallway.
"When you do it that well and the people you put your faith in don't make the final, that is a blow. I hope it doesn't put her off.
"She has been like a breath of fresh air."

Lorraine Kelly has vowed never to have cosmetic surgery.
The popular journalist and television host has revealed she would never consider having work done to improve her appearance, including Botox injections, because she would be scared about what the side effects could be.
She promised: "I would never, ever, ever mess around with my face. Ever.
"Never. Honestly, never. Because you don't know what that's going to do. You know, back in the Elizabethan times they used to put white lead on their face and then they found it would eat away at the skin."
The 55-year-old presenter - who hosts weekday ITV show 'Lorraine' - added it doesn't matter how old she gets, she can never imagine retiring.
She said: "To be honest I could never retire. I would always want to do something."
And while there have been plenty of changes with the channel's morning schedule in the past few years, she insisted she doesn't fret about the future of her programme because she believes it is of such a high quality.
When asked if she worries about her job security, she added to The Times newspaper: "I don't really. I don't dwell on it, certainly. While people are watching the show and while the figures are good and while the show is good and while I'm proud of what I do and my team - I've got the best team on telly - then I'm loving it. But I'm very aware that things can change."

Vogue Williams doesn't have a crush on Bear Grylls anymore after seeing him "basically p**s into his own mouth".
The blonde beauty travelled to the Costa Rican jungle to take part in his celebrity survival show 'Bear Grylls: Mission Survive' and she admits that while she fancied the adventurer before appearing on the show, after witnessing him urinate into a bottle and then drink it she had a change of heart.
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I think everyone has a little bit of a Bear crush, he's like the uber-man. I don't anymore because now he's my friend and I've seen him basically p**s into his own mouth."
Vogue admits she tried everything she could think of to get out of having to drink her own urine as she hasn't been able to live it down since returning home to Ireland.
She shared: "Everyone thinks I'm disgusting, even I think I'm disgusting but it was just one of those things that you had to do, it was part of being a survival person so that's why I did it.
"I was begging Bear. Every time I saw him I was like, 'Please don't make us drink our wee, it's just too obvious, don't make us do it'. But no, we were always going to drink the wee so I did try and get out of it."
The DJ and model - who is married to former Westlife singer Brian McFadden - went on to admit she hadn't imagined Bear would be so "shy".
She added: "He's so different to what I thought he'd be. He's really quite shy and he's just so normal, he's so normal. You'd think that he would be a big superstar walking into the jungle but he's just so normal and shy and such a nice guy."

Denise van Outen has promised her 'EastEnders' character will bring "fireworks" to the show.
The 40-year-old actress will make her debut on the BBC One soap as businesswoman Karin Smart next Thursday (09.04.15) and has promised there is "fun" things ahead for the character.
She said: "[She] is really fun and she is a bit naughty, surprise surprise. She is going to go into the Square and stir things up a little bit and I grabbed the chance to play her.
"I said if I was ever going to do ['EastEnders'], the two sort of personas you want is either to be the bitch or to be a bit of a slut. I chose to be a bit of a slut because you want a character you can have fun with.
"There is also a bit of history there with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) so there definitely will be some fireworks."
Denise also praised the "brilliant" acting and says the soap is full of the "hardest working actors" around.
Speaking on Channel 4's Alan Carr: Chatty Man, she said: "The acting is so good. You only have to look at the live episodes to see how brilliant it was. And they are the hardest working actors.
"I do a lot of theatre and to walk into something like that where you have little time to learn a script. You also shoot scenes out of sequence and it can be very dramatic and you have to whizz over to another set. They work so hard. I would say they are the best actors."

Katie Price has been asked to appear on 'Big Brother' Australia.
The 36-year-old television personality - who recently triumphed on the UK version of the show - has reportedly been approached by Channel 9 to join the house when she travels to the country.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Katie Price has a huge Aussie following and would be a big coup for the network. "Appearing in the series would help increase her profile further, but any deal has to be on her terms."
Meanwhile, Katie recently teased she had a big project ahead and would be moving to the country for a few months.
She said previously: "I've got something big coming up in Australia, so I'm going to be there for, I think, around three months.
"I have a big job happening ... I can't wait to come over for three or four months."
And if the former glamour model does sign up for the Australian series of the reality show, she is likely to be hoping for a similar fee, after it was reported she earned £500,000 for her time on the British show.
Australian producers may also be hoping for similar fireworks as what happened when she clashed with outspoken journalist Katie Hopkins multiple times during her stint in the house.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini won't be axed from 'The X Factor".
The 'I Don't Care' hitmaker is reportedly set to keep her position on the judging panel alongside show boss Simon Cowell despite producers warning of "exciting changes" in the competition's line up this year.
The 31-year-old singer is said to have been told by the 55-year-old music mogul that her role on the ITV show is safe although she is yet to sign the paperwork confirming her return.
A source said: "They haven't signed a deal yet but Simon, Cheryl and ITV are all on the same page."
Meanwhile, former Spice Girl Mel B - who joined the panel last year - has reportedly been placed on the "at risk" list, while Simon looks for suitable stars to replace her.
The insider told The Sun newspaper: "But that's really bad news for Mel. She had a good first year but bosses want a new line-up."
It was recently reported Louis Walsh, 62, who has starred on the show since it began in 2004, is also set to be axed despite his close friend Simon having promised him a "job for life" as a judge on the competition.
A source said: "Simon has accepted that Louis no longer has a job for life on The X Factor.
"His place on the panel is not guaranteed. He's unlikely to stay because we are actively looking at new options for his role.
"But you can never rule Louis out, because he is the great survivor of The X Factor."
Producer Richard Holloway hinted last month that ITV were planning some "surprises" on the next series.
He said: "There will be some exciting changes. The name of the show will stay the same but we are looking at the format and the judges.
"There will be some surprises this year. But I can't go into detail."

Sophie Turner "geeked out" with Aaron Paul.
The 'Game of Thrones' actress - who plays Sansa Stark in the hit show - was excited to meet the 35-year-old actor because she is such a big fan of his former show 'Breaking Bad', on which he played Jesse Pinkman, while he equally enjoys her work.
She said: "I met Aaron Paul the other day and we were geeking out about each other's shows. I was like, 'Oh my God, Jesse!' and he was like, 'Oh my God, Sansa'. It was so weird and amazing."
Despite the show being a global success, Sophie, 19, admits she still hasn't grasped just how big the programme is.
She said: "I honestly still don't think it's hit me just how big the show has got or why people are putting on ginger wigs.
"This is my first job, so I think when it comes to an end, I'll realise how lucky I was to be part of it.
"It'll hit me later on in life when I'm broke."
Sophie loves working on the show but admits her new life is "bizarre" and hard for her old friends to understand.
She told Look magazine: "It has been bizarre, but wonderful too.
"My formative years have been spent on a TV set, which is really difficult for people back home to understand."
