Troye Sivan wins big Down Under at 2023 ARIA Awards

Troye Sivan was the big winner at the 2023 ARIA Awards.

Australia’s answer to the Grammys took place at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday (15.11.23), and the ‘One of Your Girls’ singer walked away with four top prizes; Best Solo Artist, Best Produced Release and Best Engineered Release for the album ‘Rush’, and Song of the Year for the title track.

Upon collecting his trophy for Best Solo Artist, Troye, 28, gushed over being nominated in the same category as Australian pop idol Kylie Minogue at next year’s Grammys.

He said in his speech: “I swear I’m not bragging… but Kylie and I are nominated in the same category at the Grammys and it makes me so, so proud.”

Kylie, 55, won her own award with her viral hit ‘Padam Padam’ claiming Best Pop Release.

Although she couldn’t be there in person, she had done a pre-recorded message, in which she said: “Thank you so much, Padam to you!”

Genesis Owusu received the most nominations and took home the top prize of Album of the Year for ‘Struggler’, as well as Best Hip-hop / Rap Release and Best Independent Release.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian-Australian singer used his videolink message to call for a ceasefire in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict.

He said: “Hip-hop made me who I am and allowed me to speak on the things that I wanted to speak on, so I cherish it with my heart always.”

G Flip scooped two prizes, with the 30-year-old singer landing Best Australian Live Act and Best Video for ‘Good Enough’.

The rapper – who was supported by ‘Selling Sunset’ star wife Chrishell Stause – also opened the show with an energetic performance that saw them play the drums and bounce across the stage to punk pop tune ‘Good Enough’.

Dolly Parton, 77, also made a virtual appearance to present Best Country Album to Fanny Lumsden for ‘Hey Dawn’.

Best Group went to indie rockers DMA’s.

And Taylor Swift, 33, was crowned Most Popular International Artist.

In her pre-recorded message, she said of her upcoming ‘Eras Tour’ shows Down Under: “This means so much to me because it’s voted on by the fans and I get to see my amazing fans in February.

“So soon, I just can’t wait.”
