Tristan Gemmill picks Corrie cancer plot as his favourite after it saved viewer’s life

Tristan Gemmill says his ‘Coronation Street’ testicular cancer storyline is one of his favourites from his time on the soap after the storyline saved a viewer’s life.
The 52-year-old actor – who is set to leave the soap in the coming weeks, four years after joining the show as Robert Preston – feels fortunate to have been involved in so many significant plots on the cobbles, but he admitted one in particularly is a lot more important than the rest.
He said: "In my four years I have had a lot of really good stories, steroids, testicular cancer, gambling addictions, one night stands, successful and unsuccessful romances, a prison stint.
"Robert’s light has burned pretty brightly. I have no complaints on that score.
"The testicular cancer storyline saved someone’s life, a viewer in Canada saw the story, checked himself and it saved his life, he came over to the street and we showed him around.
"If you can have that big an effect on someone’s life then you have done something right in the world."
The guy checked himself as a result of Coronation Street’s testicular cancer storyline and discovered he had a lump, before having it removed.
Tristan – whose ‘Corrie’ character battled testicular cancer in 2017 – previously said: "When we did the testicular cancer story, there was a guy in Canada who checked himself as a result and found a lump.
"He got it seen to in time and had it removed, and is now on the road to recovery."
