Tony Blackburn wants to make Coronation Street cameo

Tony Blackburn was rejected for a cameo in ‘Coronation Street’.

The former BBC Radio 1 DJ has revealed he is the ITV soap’s "biggest fan" but admits his attempts to appear on the famous cobbled street and stop off for a pint at the Rovers Return pub have so far been unsuccessful.

He shared: "I love ‘Coronation Street’. I’ve watched practically every episode – I think I’m their biggest fan.

"I’ve only got one ambition and it’s to be on it, to be in the Rovers Return. My agent tried to get me on it… but they wouldn’t do it.

"I don’t understand why because they’ve done it with a few celebrities."

The 72-year-old star claims he hasn’t let the snubs put him off his favourite show, however, as he still refuses to miss an episode.

He told The Sun newspaper: "I love to record seven or eight, then have a day when I just watch that. It’s beautifully written.

"I don’t like ‘EastEnders’, I find it a bit depressing."

Meanwhile, Tony – who was crowned king of the jungle on the first ever series of ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ – has confessed he would also like to take to the dance floor on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

He added: "If Strictly asked me, I probably would – but I’m a really bad dancer.

"If they don’t ask me in the next couple of years, I think that’s it – I’ll be far too old. I’d need a Zimmer frame."
