Tommy Fury’s dad ‘so proud’ of son on Love Island

Tommy Fury’s dad "didn’t think he had it in him" when he heard his son was going on ‘Love Island’.
John Fury – who is also the father of pro boxer Tyson Fury – admits he initially "didn’t understand" why the 20-year-old star wanted to take part in the ITV2 dating show, but he felt "very proud" of his boy while watching him on the programme.
He said: "I didn’t understand it because it’s not something I watched, but once I started watching it through Tommy, I got enthralled in it and I enjoyed every moment of it.
"He acquitted himself so well he made me very proud, because I didn’t think he had it in him, but he’s opened my eyes has Tommy."
John admitted it took him "by surprise" when Tommy announced he was going on the show.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, he added: "To be honest, the ‘Love Island’ thing took me by surprise, just a thing that came out of the blue.
"I’m watching him eat his breakfast, next time he’s on ‘Love Island’.
"He told me when he was going."
Tommy met girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague on the programme and the pair are still together now.
But the boxer recently admitted he won’t let his significant other be the one to pop the question.
He said: "Any man who lets a woman propose is not a man. It’s obviously gone wrong somewhere. Imagine if she did that!"
But the couple don’t want to rush things after getting to know each other in the villa.
Molly-Mae added: "We chat about the future a lot. I don’t know if we seem stupid because we are so young, but we’ve found everything we want so why can’t we talk about marriage and babies as it is going to happen?
"I did make a joke that Tommy would propose in the Maldives when we go for New Year and it blew up, but there is no pressure to do it that quickly.
"When he does propose, I’m not going to be bothered about the ring or anything like that. I’d be happy with a Haribo ring if it meant we were getting married."
