Tom Watt recalls being mistaken for Coronation Street’s Kevin Kennedy

Tom Watt used to be mistaken for ‘Coronation Street’s Kevin Kennedy.

The 64-year-old actor – who played Lofty Holloway in ‘EastEnders’ – has admitted that at one stage in his life, he was always being mistaken for Kevin, who played Curly Watts in the ITV soap.

Tom explained: "I went to university in Manchester, I had a small scale touring company in Manchester, I did a lot of work with a band in Manchester, I put on plays at the Hacienda. I was on it a bit in Manchester.

"I did meet Kevin Kennedy a few times and I remember him saying to me, ‘Your character is like mine in ‘Coronation Street’.’ It was something that I did twig quite early – people would come up to me and instead of saying, ‘Oh, you’re Lofty, aren’t you?’ They’d say, ‘Oh, you’re Curly, aren’t you?’

"I knew there was something going on there. He was a good lad Kevin."

Tom actually returned to ‘EastEnders’ in 2019, and he’s admitted to being open to the idea of making another comeback if the right storyline presented itself to him.

The soap star told the ‘Distinct Nostalgia’ podcast: "If there was a story to do, I would probably.

"To be honest I’d say, ‘Yeah, great.’ Then I’d look at the amount of work I’ve got in front of me and think, ‘Yeah, dream on.’

"Absolutely I would if there was a storyline for Lofty as much as anything for the challenge, for the crack. There’s some really good people working on it now."
