Tom Hardy: I’ve been a bog-standard alcoholic my whole life

Tom Hardy says he’s been a "bog-standard alcoholic" his whole life.
The 41-year-old actor – who has previously admitted to being "out of control" with drink and drugs before turning his life around – has confessed that his past problems helped him with his latest on-screen role in ‘Venom’.
Tom – who went to rehab in 2003 and has now been sober for more than a decade – said: "I was a bog-standard alcoholic my whole life."
The British star plays Eddie Brock, a journalist whose body is invaded by an alien, in the new movie.
And he’s admitted that in some ways, he can relate to the Jekyll-and-Hyde character.
He told ‘Good Morning Britain’: "There were elements of that, like my inside voice.
"I can see the symbolism there, but I know that as a grown-up and as a man I can’t go out there and bite people’s heads off."
Tom has emerged as one of Hollywood’s best-known stars since overcoming addiction.
And the actor has admitted his career has proven to be his saviour from his past troubles.
Tom – who married his second wife, actress Charlotte Riley, in 2014 – previously explained: "The only thing that saved me through that dark time was acting. I originally got into it because I wanted to make my father proud of me.
"Because I was an only child, this was very important to me – and there wasn’t very much of anything else that I could do.
"But acting was something I could do – and because I found that I was good at it, I wanted to make the effort to invest time and effort into doing it."
