Tom Hardy has dropped out of the ‘Suicide Squad’ movie.
The 37-year-old actor had been cast in the role of supervillain Rick Flag in the eagerly-awaited comic book movie, which is being directed by David Ayer and will also star the likes of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne and Jared Leto.
Hardy’s exit from the movie has been attributed to scheduling issues, with The Hollywood Report saying ‘Nightcrawler’ star Jake Gyllenhaal has been approached to replace him.
The British star is currently busy filming ‘The Revenant, which also features Leonardo DiCaprio, with the shoot expected to last for longer than was originally planned.
What’s more, Hardy is committed to promoting ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, which is due to open in the middle of May, in the middle of shooting for ‘Suicide Squad’.
Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal has received an offer to appear in the film, but he’s still to confirm whether or not he intends to accept.
He is currently appearing in the Broadway production ‘Constellations’, which runs until mid-March.
At this moment, it remains unclear whether he would have enough preparation time to assume the role of Rick Flag.
‘Suicide Squad’ is set for release in August 2016.
