Tom Cruise’s film Mena gets new title and release date

Tom Cruise’s ‘Mena’ film has been renamed and rescheduled.
The 54-year-old American actor who is set to play the lead role as Barry Seal in the forthcoming crime thriller movie has accrued the new title ‘American Made’ and is set to be released in September 2017, instead of its original January 2017 date, which was announced by Universal Pictures on Monday (08.08.16), according to Variety.
It has been reported the shift in release dates is a bid to suit the adult audience, who regularly watch adult dramas in the Autumn/Winter season.
The upcoming blockbuster is based on Seal – the former Trans World Airline pilot – who used to smuggle in drugs and other contraband during the 1980s for the CIA and the Medellin Cartel.
And the role is fitting for Cruise who is a trained pilot himself.
The production will be the second time director Doug Liman and Cruise have worked together, as the pair joined forces on the 2014 science fiction film ‘Edge of Tomorrow’.
The upcoming project will receive the backing from Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Gazer and Cross Creek Pictures, whilst Universal will handle the distribution and marketing aspects of the film.
Doug Davison and Kim Roth from Quadrant Pictures will also be on hand with production.
Meanwhile, the film caught the attention of many last year when an airplane carrying the staff and crew members crashed whilst on set in Colombia last year.
The accident saw American film pilot Alan David Purwin and Carlos Berl killed, whilst one person was left seriously injured, however Cruise was not on the plane during this time.
It is rumoured the accident was due to bad weather conditions, which caused the twin engine Aerostar to crash.
