Tom Cruise: I have an incredible life

Tom Cruise feels fortunate to have an "incredible life".

The ‘Top Gun’ actor, whose career in film spans more than three decades, was honoured for his success in the movie industry at Jameson Empire Awards in London on Sunday (30.03.14) where he picked up the Legend of Our Lifetime accolade and thanked people for their support throughout his career.

He said: "I feel very fortunate. I’ve had an incredible life so far. I spent most of my life in editing rooms, mixing bays, sound stages and movie sets all over the world – it’s been an incredible life, a rich life.

"It takes a village to make a movie and I’ve had a rich life because of the people I’ve worked with – technicians, craftsmen, directors, writers, producers, actors – that I’ve learned from and continue to learn from."

The 51-year-old star often takes people on set with him to give them an insight into his life in movies and admits they are often shocked by the amount of effort which is put in to making the films.

He explained: "I like to bring people by movie sets when we’re working, especially people who haven’t made films before because at the end of the day they have a look on their face, they’re stunned and bewildered and surprised by the effort that it takes. They’re like, ‘You people work? This is work?’ I do know it takes a tremendous amount of effort, dedication, endurance and luck [to make a movie]."

Tom also thanked the audiences for allowing him to "entertain" them and added: "Empire, I hope to get an invite back for the 50th."
