This Morning win TV Choice Award’s Best Daytime Show

‘This Morning’ have won the TV Choice Award for Best Daytime Show.

The ITV programme – which is fronted by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield – has been awarded the prize, despite the event taking place virtually due to the coronavirus crisis.

Showbiz reporter Alison Hammond announced the news on Monday’s (07.09.20) show.

Delivering the accolade, she said: "Because of Covid, there’s no awards ceremony so they’ve entrusted me to deliver this to ‘This Morning’.

"This is the fifth one we’ve won. We’ve beat off ‘Good Morning Britain’. Piers Morgan, ‘Loose Women’, ‘The Chase’. Sorry guys, but we won!"

Phillip thanked the fans who voted for the show, adding: "If you did vote for us then, thank you very much in deed!"

Alison said: "On behalf of all the nation, you guys have been amazing and the team has been amazing. On behalf of all the nation, you have been absolutely amazing and you do deserve this."

Simon Mayo is set to host the TV Choice Awards 2020 virtually this evening as the event was axed earlier this year.

Speaking about the awards, Simon said: "As voted for entirely by fans, The TV Choice Awards are a chance for us as viewers to celebrate the shows that have made the biggest impact in the last year.

"Join me in marking the achievements of our favourite TV stars as we settle in for a night of big reveals, speeches and maybe even a surprise or two."

Despite the pandemic, viewers have been inundated with new shows including ‘Normal People’ – starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal – who are up for Best New Drama, as well as Best Actress and Best Actor respectively.
